“Sand and the sun, the summer has begun”
It’s Summer 2017 and the heat is no joke. Most days, when I don’t have to go to work, I’m laid up naked at home, sipping on some ice cold beverage trying to keep my body cool. It’s the only time I don’t feel to combust because of this heat.
Being the little creative genius I am, I had to find alternative ways to beat the heat. I can’t be walking around naked all the time! I got a family… bummer!
Here are some of the things I do to keep cool:
Flavoured Ice Cubes
Whilst water may be the healthiest thirst-quencher, it can be very boring. Why not jazz things up with a little flavour?
If you’re bored and craving a little flavour, grab your ice tray and fill it up with your flavourful idea, let it freeze and then enjoy.
Pineapple or Watermelon – my two favorite flavours.
Always remember, “black absorbs, white reflects.” This is to say, wearing lighter shades of clothes will keep you cooler than dark-colored ones. Darker colors tend to absorb and trap heat.
It’s a plus if the fabric is also cotton or cotton-like.
Show off your legs and wear comfy breathable shoes.
Spice things up
Next time you decide to eat, try adding a little spice to your meal.
When you eat spicy food, you sweat and sweating is natures way of cooling you down. Yes, it’s a little gross but it works.
What happens is that spicy food raises your internal body temperature to match the external temperature.
Enjoy the outdoor
Plan your outdoor activites in the early mornings or late evenings, avoiding midday when the sunshine is at it’s peak.
Meet up with some friends at your best hang out spot or have a picnic under the shade of a tree sipping on some cold beverages.
Take cold showers
Kickstart your day with a relaxing, cold shower.
Who feels groggy in the morning after a long nap? I sure do and it’s worse with this heat.
Taking a cold shower not only keeps you cool but it increases your mood and alertness that’ll keep you energized for the day ahead.
We are into summer and there are warmer days ahead, don’t let it hinder you from having a great summer. Keep cool.
